  • Frank & Cheryl - At last! {Part 1!}

McBloggies! You must be thinking..."At last!"

Yes, at last, we are catching up on the blog! We were doing so well for awhile...we'll be having something like our last blogging week - a spree of posts to catch up!

First up...part 1 of Frank & Cheryl's wedding! You'll remember them from their super fun session at Disneyland. I mentioned in that post why this wedding was special - we've been praying for Cheryl to come into Frank's life for so long (before we even knew who Cheryl was)! Their wedding took place at Evergreen, the church I grew up at, so it always feels like a big reunion. AND it was the first wedding that my parents & brother were also guests at while Micah & I were the photographers!

I spent some time with the girls in the morning -

Cheryl was beaming with joy & excitement - & kept her cool the whole day!

Some early morning bridesmaid fun...with a sewing kit!

You will see just how much fun this day was - a reflection of who Frank & Cheryl are, & who they surround themselves with! The girls were up for anything that day!

Girls...&...Boys. The girls did this one first, & so we told the guys they had to match it. I think my favorite thing about it though is how Adam looks happy & friendly in the guys picture!

Loved this moment between Cheryl & their ring bearer -

Her flower girl was being shy at first - here's a sweet moment with her mom before pictures with Cheryl!

Meet the Jr. Party~ Cheryl & Frank both coach girls basketball teams, & wanted to include them in the bridal party. Cheryl's team were her Jr. bridesmaids (& they were so excited for her!)

    And Frank's team were the Guestbook attendants - on a sidenote, I've watched this team (the Angels) grow up too! They were the class of girls I taught since they were in 1st grade, & I helped coach their team with Harvey (one of the groomsmen) for a few years before I went to college. I love them! There were tons of fun pictures, but I ended up with this one because it is so serious...until you reach the right side of the picture. ..nice try Kelly, haha! {You know we love you, thanks for being a mcbloggie}

On her way to 'not see' Frank, I caught this one of Cheryl just glowing! Isn't she beautiful?

Cheryl & Frank wanted to 'not see' each other (but be close) before the ceremony for a few pictures, so that they could save the actual first look for the ceremony, but still give a lot of time to the photos. Kcho  provided the heart for the first, thanks buddy!

I couldn't pick between the next two - her dad is so happy & proud of his daughter! & in the second one, it's that moment of anticipation, right before she walks down the aisle to see Frank.

She spent most of the ceremony turning around to talk to mom in the first row - so sweet!

Now Frank & Cheryl had asked to book the "Disney Dream Package" with us, & they continued the Disney theme throughout the day. These special wands were hand made & given to guests as they entered. At the end of the ceremony Disney music began to play, & guests waved the wands in the air for their exit!

Mr. & Mrs! We did it guys, we really did it! (In the words of Frank!)

It struck me just how much Frank & Cheryl enjoyed their wedding ceremony - there were times that I could hear them laughing together up at the altar. They love so many people, & are truly loved by so many, & somehow found ways to include everyone in special ways.  We didn't even feel like we were "working" because everyone was having so much fun!

Stay tuned for details from their reception, pictures of the party, more fun & their slideshow!

  • Sarah + Tosh, engaged!

    Hi McBloggies,

    Apologies for the "silence" lately here on the blog. Life has been good, & very full...& it feels like we've been experiencing the full life cycle condensed lately. We've rejoiced with friends tying the knot, celebrated with friends who are expecting a lil' one & navigating the season of pregnancy, helped friends move into a new home, kicked off the school year with our youth group, & also said goodbye to my grandma. {All of this within the last week & a half!}

That being said, we have so much to share with you still! Weddings, family fun, camp pictures (yeah, we still haven't put those up yet!). Thanks for sticking with us friends!

For today we have a fun engagement shoot with our friends Sarah & Tosh. Tosh & Micah met in college, & also went to Brazil together (along with Risa!) When we met with Sarah & Tosh to talk about photography, Micah asked me "hey so, do you know Sarah?"

I replied "um...yeah, since I was like 2." You see, Sarah & I were gymrats together, & we grew up playing in the locker rooms & hallways of gyms while our parents played volleyball. Sarah would bring all of her cool dress up jewelry, & we'd be princesses. When we got older, we would write letters, & she would sign it "lil sunshine" (which, if you know her, is COMPLETELY appropriate!). I remember sitting in my room when she was a high school senior, & she was telling me about this guy, Satoshi...& then what do ya know? Years later, they're engaged! Here's a bit of our day together~

As you can see, we started off the day at UCLA, where Sarah attended med school.

Sarah has been waiting so patiently to see the pictures - & she is a faithful McBloggie too! I think Sarah & Tosh win the award for being at the most weddings we have shot - we just saw them at Davey+Risa's, saw them at the Kitanji wedding, & Steph & Ivan's.

A lil' sunshine for you. Yes, that is on purpose.

    Strike a pose...

Have some fun (this comes very naturally for them!)

I love the look of this one - can I say that about my own pictures?! I'm not sure why, but it jumped out at both of us Gilmores.

And I love this one too - it was hard pick between the black & white version or color, but I love the classic & timeless feel when it's b&w.

    Fun windows!

The last light of the day...

    Goodbye for now Santa Monica!

Sarah & Tosh - thanks for hanging out with us & for your friendship throughout the years. We really enjoyed our time with you guys & the yummy dinner afterwards too! We're praising God for bringing you two together, & looking forward to your wedding in January! Love, the Gilmore's

  • Fun in the park! A Family Session...

    Hi mcBloggies,

We enjoyed a fun day in the park with this special family of 4 - Gabe & Maribeth told us their kids loved this particular park. We serve together on staff at our church with Gabe, so it was a special treat to share this "outdoor office" for an afternoon.

    Meet Amy:

It was especially fun to see Amy smile & laugh - usually when I see her she's shy! Take her to the park & she's all about fun - she is quite an independent lil' lady!

cute lil' feet, with sweet socks & shoes!

Now this picture is from Steph  + Ivan's wedding, but I actually have a LOT like this from Sundays after church. Matt will hide behind his mom, but as soon as he sees a camera he yells "CHHEEEESE!" (while still "hiding" behind something/someone)

At the park, he wasn't shy at all! Meet our buddy Matt:

Like father, like son? (Yes, that is Gabe getting off the slide!)

The swingset brought even more big smiles...

...and I love this family picture with Amy's...sideways peace sign?

All Amy wanted to do was go down the slide!

And so she did just that the next time around -

Matt showing off his posing skills for us

While Micah took Gabe & Maribeth to take some pictures together...

Matt & Amy decided to rush over to me! They were {THIS close} to actually touching the camera lens, & I fell over trying to take their picture while also protecting the camera =)

Matt loves balloons. And he loves shadows. This one's for you buddy~

Checking out what his shadow looked like...

Gabe, Maribeth, Matt, & Amy - thanks for taking us to the park, & for being so much fun! You have each been blessings to us, & we loved capturing this day with you. ~ the gilmores

  • Davey+Risa Engagement!

Hey mcBloggies, got another one for ya - here's Davey + Risa's Engagement session! They're getting married in just a couple weeks!

I met Davey when I was in Jr. High - he came to our youth group with a friend. He probably doesn't remember me from then (which is fine with me, those were my awkward years!) Micah met these two in college, and went on a month long missions trip to Brazil with Risa (& team). I met Risa in college as well, when she stayed at my apartment for a spring break trip (the same time Elliot came down)

You may also recognize Davey as one of the groomsmen & expert leaf thrower from Elliot+RayAnne's wedding!

    Davey hiding from the "paparazzi"

Sat down with a hawaiian guy singing songs in Seal Beach...

Enjoyed (or didn't enjoy, from the look on Davey's face) some ice cream - this whole storyboard set the tone for the shoot as I was going through their images. It reminded me of when I put crafts together or scrapbook - a lot of times I just start with pieces & colors. As I work, the overall idea or theme pops out. Every piece of their shoot said "summer!" to me, & it was a lot of fun for me.

Been awhile since I've put one of these up, here's Micah's "hey, can you pose like this?" I didn't have my camera ready, so it was a "no-looker-i-hope-this-turns-out" type moment. It turned out looking a little more romantic/dreamy than I hoped, haha...or maybe an old surf movie?

...but as usual, this one beats Micah's.

    Parking lots are fun!

Ending the day with a Long Beach sunset.

Actually we ended the day with dinner at Yardhouse & yummy food together. Can't wait for their wedding day in LA! We're off to shoot another engagement shoot in LA, with a couple with a Brazil connection to Micah & a childhood friend connection with me. More to come next week! Have a lovely weekend mcBloggies!

Davey & Risa, we had fun hanging out with you guys, & as usual, enjoyed sharing good food together (that seems to be a common theme with our get togethers!) Your outfits were wonderful =) & YOU are both wonderful too. Thanks for your friendship & for trusting us to capture a piece of your story. love, the Gilmores

  • Karen & Jeremy Engagement Session!

This was supposed to be posted earlier, but we had some internet issues at the Gilmore house, aka it was not working!! As promised to our patient mcBloggies, here are some fun & fierce images from Karen & Jeremy's engagement session in Laguna Beach!

We first met Karen about a year ago, when she & Jeremy had just gotten engaged. Later we enjoyed coffee with the both of them (last year in October), & they'll be tying the knot this October at a beautiful private estate in Orange!

Last year as we shared our stories, we realized our shared love for Laguna Beach - it's where Karen & Jeremy first met, & also where Micah proposed to me (as we shared many a date night there!) One word that kept coming up to me was "comfortable." Our time together then felt comfortable, & as a couple they were so comfortable together!

For their engagement shoot we started off at the Fun Zone, where the two of them competed in a couple games...

...& then they worked the camera while trying not to attract too much attention (people were stopping to stare quite often during our shoot!)

Together we found some fun alleyways & doorways-

And braved the storm of jr. lifeguards (Jeremy's shirt was appropriate for the day - there were SWARMS of blue shirts red shorts red hats everywhere that day!)

Even though they told us they needed time to get "comfy" (or used to) a camera in their face, they sure looked like naturals to us!

We moved on to Laguna Beach, where Jeremy really could've convinced us he does this a lot - I mean seriously,  his look is stunning!

Here's where Jeremy shared the story of how he proposed to Karen - he also shared that this was his favorite "pose," sitting in a chair =)

Karen definitely knew how to work the camera too~

Micah's angle at the beach -

...and my view. I love the dreamy quality of both of these images!

As you can see in all of the images, Karen naturally has such beautiful & striking features! Her natural features were highlighted by her hair & makeup artist, Nicole Deanne, who I have heard & read so much about - she did an amazing job, don't you think??

And we'll end with my favorite from the day!

Karen & Jeremy - we can't wait for your wedding next month, & we know it's going to be lovely! Thank you for encouraging us with your email, we're so glad that you two enjoyed your photos. You guys are awesome!   Love, the Gilmores

  • Alfred + Bailey - Wyoming Wedding {part 2!}

    Hello again mcbloggies!

That's "m&c blog followers" if you needed clarification - I realized that we have rarely explained that...so if you are reading, that's YOU!

The "tomorrow" post I referred to in
Alfred & Bailey part 1 turned into a "next week" post. So here is the rest of their day!

Micah stole the couple away for a few more portraits...

while I went into the white tent to take pictures of some reception details, which included a fun candy bar & kids coloring table...

...and a BBQ. Why is this an important detail you might ask? UM because BBQ = love. & there was definitely a LOT of love put into this wedding!

Quick shot of Cathy, Alfred's mom, & her TWO married sons!

And a few of the fun reception faces - including a mustache, "moose ears," & some buck teeth. Oh, & the "Mr. Dishwasher" shirt was part of Kat's amazing MOH toast - she had the shirt, but also gave them the sign in the title picture: "All because two people fell in love." She themed her toast around those words, & gave them both fun & heartfelt encouragement, advice, & love. Bailey's mom, Alfred's brother (Best Man, with the "teeth" below), and Alfred's grandfather all gave beautiful (and funny) toasts as well!

    Let them eat cake!

Lots of homemade chocolate and carrot cake (made by family friends of the bride & groom)

A joyful first dance (to the song you can hear in their slideshow)

I'd written in their rehearsal post how we knew this would be especially emotional for Bailey & her dad, Lee. In his toast, he said "my heart strings are attached to my tear ducts" - Micah told me that he thinks he'll be similar to Lee in the future if he ever has to give his daughter away.

One of the flower girls & the ring bearer sharing a dance

Grabbed Alfred & Bailey to catch the last bits of light outside -

...and then they went back in to join the party on the dance floor!

The Willcox siblings, now all married!

The 3rd & 4th member of our photography team, Kat Willcox and Aaron Willcox, having some fun with pictures in the dark (thanks again for your patience with me trying to get this one for you!)

A gorgeous Wyoming sky & sunset to end a beautiful day!

Bailey & Alfred - congrats again on your marriage & new beginning together! Thank you so much for welcoming us as friends into your lives, & for giving us a picture of true fellowship. We had so much fun in Jackson Hole (& hope to return someday!) & felt so warmly welcomed by your families & friends. May He use you in new ways together as Mr. & Mrs!   love, the gilmores

  • Alfred + Bailey - a Jackson Hole, WY Wedding {part 1}

    Hey Mcbloggies!

As promised, here is part 1 of our wedding from Jackson Hole, Wyoming! We posted some pictures from Alfred & Bailey's rehearsal & dinner a few days ago, & today will be the first half of their big day.

Micah & I had never been to Wyoming at all, & actually did not get to meet Alfred or Bailey in person until their wedding week! We hadn't even heard of Jackson Hole, but let me tell you - as soon as we stepped off our plane, we were in AWE. We were both taking pictures with our iphones as we walked down the stairs to the airport because the scenery was so breathtaking.  When we saw their ceremony site, we both just looked at each other in amazement because it was so picturesque.

We were able to spend some time in Yellowstone & went on a scenic river trip during our amazing stay (& saw lots of wildlife!) - and on a sidenote, the weather in Jackson Hole is a lot like SoCal, just colder at night! We enjoyed our time there so much, & enjoyed getting to know their families too - I know we're both hoping to return someday.

    Alright, on to the wedding!

The day started at Tom & Jane's house, close family friends of Bailey. The house itself was AMAZING (you can see the front of it in the background), & there were these cute wooden signs all along the roads to direct guests.

I started off with the girls & began grabbing some of the pretty details~

The cross that you'll see in the background of their ceremony was made (& carried over) by Alfred. After 2 of Bailey's girls saw it at the rehearsal, they made her a cross as a gift to give her the morning of her wedding.

Micah spent time with the boys...

Bailey & Alfred were getting ready at the same house, but on opposite sides. Micah & I were on our phones or running back & forth to make sure they wouldn't run into each other, as they did not want to see each other before the ceremony. Here's Bailey's mom helping her lace up her dress...

...while Alfred was playing the mini piano!

The boys went further outside towards the Snake River,

And then we had a short time with the radiant bride & her bridesmaids!

Here's Bailey's dad, Lee, spending some time with one of his grandsons before the ceremony.

    We are gathered here today...

    Bailey & her dad

Bailey's matron of honor, Kat Willcox, is both Bailey's best friend & sister in law (Kat married one of Bailey's brothers). Kat is also the reason that we were even in Wyoming for this amazing wedding - she is an awesome photographer herself, & had met Micah at a Starbox lunch (hosted by Jasmine Star). She told us that she wouldn't be able to photograph the wedding herself, but it looks like she's getting a better angle than any of us here!

A cute moment during the ceremony (Pastor Mark is one of their uncles, to add to the family ties!)

Worshiping together to MercyMe's "Word of God Speak" - it was so clear that this couple was worshiping their God together throughout the whole day.

    and I now pronounce you...husband &  wife!

After the ceremony we took a little more time to grab some shots of the girls -

...and then Micah took some of the girls with Alfred...

while I caught Bailey over by the creek!

There were SO MANY cute kids everywhere! Bailey & Alfred invited & included a lot of lil' ones in their day. Here are just a few of the faces...

There was also a lot of tossing of precious things going on. In the first image is our new buddy Aaron Willcox, who totally helped us out by being the "unofficial third photographer." I think between the Gilmores and the Willcox cousins (Kat & Aaron), we caught just about EVERYTHING, haha! You can see how Aaron's camera toss shot turned out along with his amazing perspective of the day here!

And I'll end this post with 2 favorites from the day (there were a lot to choose from!)- the first is Micah's...

and then one of mine too! Tomorrow we'll continue with pictures from the reception & some more portraits of  the new Mr. & Mrs. Godfrey.

annnnd if you'd like to see more of their day, watch their slideshow below!

  • Alfred + Bailey Rehearsal & mini e-session!

    Hey McBloggies!

Just a quick post before the weekend - Micah & I are going on a retreat with our Youth Ministry Team this weekend, but we'll be back Sunday evening!

Alfred & Bailey celebrated their wedding week in Jackson Hole, Wyoming - they had activities & festivities for each day leading to their big day. We weren't able to meet them until we arrived in Wyoming, so we changed up our usual engagement session slightly. They invited us to join them for their wedding rehearsal & rehearsal dinner, both held in beautiful backyards of family friends. And we stole them away from the dinner for a little to do a mini e-session too!

    This was what we had to work with. {Amazing, yes???}

    Prayer before the rehearsal -

There were cute lil' ones everywhere!

Practicing giving his only daughter away - Micah & I got a taste of the emotions to come watching Bailey & her dad, Lee, interact throughout the evening.

Cousins! (& Kelly, their joyful grandma in the background!)

You can hear him saying "I'm TWO." and her look is saying "but I'm THREE. so there."

Kai, Bailey's nephew, fell into the little creek and wasn't loving it too much. His mom, Kat, alerted me to what was going on with her son & husband - (more on Kat in the post on the wedding!)

...but Daddy said something funny & made it all better!

Lee at the rehearsal dinner with his Bubba's bbq sandwich. This family knew the key to the Gilmores' hearts - yummy bbq!

We also had the pleasure of meeting Bailey's cousin, Aaron Wilcox, who is an amazing photographer in San Diego. I caught Aaron's son "enjoying" a lemon across the table as he sat with his auntie. The cutest part was that he kept trying it to see if it would get better...but reacted with his sour face each time!

and a few shots from the mini session - I think they're laughing at Micah in this one -

They make each other so happy! You can see the adoration in their eyes =)

Thanks to the Wilcox & Godfrey family for making us feel so welcome, & for introducing us to Wyoming!

This is just the beginning - so much more to come  - we'll have 2 posts for their wedding up next week! Have a great weekend!

  • mcBoothy + kitanji!

At the Kitanji wedding after party (at The Warehouse), we set up a fun little mcBoothy, complete with patriotic gear & kitanji '09 posters. Hope you enjoy some of the snapshots - it was hard to narrow down the shots - everyone had so much fun!

I had to test the light -I think I look like a tourist.

    prom...

    in case of rain...

    ran into my buddy motoki!

not sure if you can see the churros here, since micah's eyeball is rather prominent. These churros were *HANDS DOWN* the BEST. churros. EVAH.

David & Ji both loved the churros too (you can see their pictures in their teaser post). The mcBoothy was our first one at a wedding, & was a fun & casual way to get pictures of their guests.

To the Kitanji wedding guests - thanks for bringing the fun! The rest of the pictures will be up on the Kitanji site shortly

Still to come this week & next week - part 1 & 2 recap of Alfred & Bailey's Wyoming Wedding! & then Karen & Jeremy's engagement session!

  • kitanji!

Hey McBloggies! (special hello to jerry, lisa l., kelly j., & auntie virginia - thanks for reading!)

Thanks again for all of the love from the last post - it was a very emotional week, and we're all (as in my whole family) so thankful for your support! Thanks again for your patience too. We put up the kitanji wedding teaser before we left for camp - here's their wedding in full now!

David & Ji (Kitanji) planned an amazing, detailed, & very intentional 4th of July wedding. While they had a lot of fun with the details, colors, and "play" on the day, there was so much depth and meaning to why they chose to include everything.  And to add even more fun, they stuck with the red, white, and blue colors and it was so tastefully done!

Ji loves making websites, and their wedding website was awesome! They came up with a "platform" describing the issues Kitanji cared about, which of course shaped their entire day.

I (Christie) started the day off with the girls as usual - if you remember from their engagement shoot, Ji has a fabulous eye for fashion & accesorizing, which totally carried over to her wedding day as well.  And don't you just LOVE the bouquets with the cute red & blue ribbons & pins?! (Fleuretica did an amazing job on the flowers for the day!)

Yes, I do realize this is the second picture featuring her red shoes. BUT Ji's Cole Haan shoes with Nike air (yes, with NIKE AIR) were not only the perfect color, but they were SUPER cute. Even Micah really liked them, and he isn't a total shoe guy...he made several comments about them, and I hinted that if he liked them so much, he could totally get me a pair. And I would totally love them. *hint hint*

On to grab pictures all together! This one is lovely -

    The boys...

and the girls! can you tell that this group was up for anything?! they even made a couple special signs for David & Ji - you can see them in the slideshow at the end, or in the McBoothy pictures we'll post in a day or so.

    I love catching candid moments!

Some ceremony & reception #1 details! They had "voter registration" for their guest sign in, buttons for guests to wear, & flags representing their backgrounds (U.S., Japan, Korea). They even thought to make their programs look like voting guides for their "Celebration of In(ter)depence!"

Their moms wore a traditional Korean hanbok and a Japanese kimono for the celebration! As written in their wedding platform, "...So if the marriage of two distinct individuals these days is a miracle, even more so is the marriage of one of Korean ancestry (Ji) with one of Japanese ancestry (David). We would like to celebrate the hope of reconciliation between nations (Japan, Korea, and even America) and God's ultimate grace that makes all reconciliation possible."

Kitanji had the most awesome vows we have ever heard - both Micah & I were moved to tears because of how beautiful they were in the picture painted & the truth displayed. Again, part of their wedding platform was to point to a greater marriage between Christ & the church - their vows combined the traditional promises, but ultimately pointed to a love that was & always would be greater than their own.

I won't post them in full here, but this is how they ended each of theirs:
"...By my love, I hope to prepare you
    For the One whose love
I can only but hope to faintly imitate
    --the Lord Jesus Christ"

    kitanji = married!

At reception #1, the wedding party (aka wedding Cabinet) walked into a room full of people cheering and waving their flags in celebration. They all even had cabinet job titles - from "Top Advisor to David/Ji" or "Ambassador to Japan" or "Secretary of Internal Family Affairs."

There was a full buffet of food, & they had 3 cakes matching the 3 flags, the best part being where they came from: King's Hawaiian!

After reception #1, a small group gathered with them at the Warehouse restaurant in Marina Del Rey. David & Ji had rented out the top floor of the restaurant to enjoy more food together & to watch the 4th of July fireworks!

MC Miles (who I had not seen for many many years) kept the party going & even added some LAAW (Lecture and a Wedding) to the evening. The day was really full of fun & laughter, & LAAF members too. Here's Kitanji's reaction when he unveiled his "lecture" topic & research results, complete with graphs:

In a day or so we'll post some of the McBoothy action up from their 2nd reception/after party at the Warehouse, so stay tuned!

Kitanji - thanks for being so amazing. Seriously. & thanks for your patience with us too, & for thinking of us (& even keeping us fed) on your big day. Thank you for ordering those life-changing churros. And thank you for reminding us of His great & unconditional love. We hope you like the song we chose for your slideshow - I know it's a bit on the slow side, but we chose it for the lyrics (& also b/c we share a love for Brooke).
    See you soon!
